Craft Room (toy room, kitchen, living room...) Overhaul

Wow, I'm horrible at keeping up with the blogging. Maybe this latest project of mine will keep me more organized. Probably not, but one can dream, right?

It all started one day when I saw this picture:
Click on the picture to read the blog post about this amazing wall!

I read the "how-to" on the blog post and thought that a pegboard yarn wall would be AWESOME!!! I discussed with Hubby and showed him the pics. He agreed that it would be pretty cool looking. So we started thinking of logistics. I had two large Billy bookcases from IKEA currently holding my yarn that needed a new home. We had been talking about using part of the toy room as a "pantry" and decided the bookcases could be used for that. On the toy room wall was 3 3x3 cubeicals that now needed a new home. I took 2 of them into the craft room and the other one now lives by the washer/dryer as storage for the laundry area. It replaced the freezer which moved into the new pantry area. Now, all those toys and books that were on the 3 cubeicals needed a new home which meant that the rest of the toy room needed to be reorganized and purged. The kitchen also received a full overhaul as we moved items to the new pantry. So far my little idea of a yarn wall was turning into a major project involving 3 rooms! My SIL helped last week with the toy room/pantry area/kitchen. I cannot even tell you how much stuff went to our local thrift store. But by the end of the week, the toy room/pantry looked amazing and as an added bonus, the living room bookshelves also received a makeover to house our collection of Nancy Drew, Black Stallion and Little House collections.  That was last week. Now on to this week. I'm by no means done with the craft room (that will probably take another day or two), but I am done with the yarn wall that started it all so I thought I'd share some before and after pics!

Drum roll please......

Here are some after pics from the other rooms. I forgot before pics which I'm kind of kicking myself for. :)

Alright, now back to finishing up the craft room! Hope you enjoyed this little tour of my recent projects! :)

Measurement Monday

Today is measurement Monday, where I share my progress towards being a healthier me!

I started Curves Complete last Monday and today was my first weigh in.

Drum roll, please...

I'm down 7 lbs. and 0.3% body fat!

This program is great for me as it fits into my lifestyle very well. I knew I would have a hard time for the first week, so I chose to use their heat & eat plan which is a set of frozen dinners you can choose from for lunch and dinner and just add some veggies, a salad or some nuts to it. This week, I'll be adding in a few recipe meals. I'm going to keep it as simple as possible for me because I'm an all or nothing kind of gal and if I make it too hard on myself, I'll be more likely to give up. So, learning a few recipes a week while continuing to have the frozen dinners for the rest will ease me into eventually making recipes every day. :)

I also have an account at My Fitness Pal so that I can keep up with my fellow 2013 Relayers trying to lose a total of 2500 lbs! Now only 2493 lbs need to be lost by us! :) If you're on My Fitness Pal and would like to be friends, my name is LOTRWarrior. I don't record my food there as I don't need to with my Curves Complete program, but I will check in at least once a week to update my progress there and see what's happening.

I'm also on Spark People. You can find me there under the name of raediee. :)

Hope you enjoy your week and try to do something healthy!

New Year, New Direction

Exciting news! Raven's Rascals is expanding our scope of giving!

For years, I have been making items solely to fundraise for the American Cancer Society via our family's Relay for Life team. But, due to events this past year, we, as a family, have decided to "spread the love" so to speak and also contribute to other organizations. 2013 will be the last year we have an "official" Relay for Life team. We will continue to work with our local Relay for Life in fundraising (I have some really cool ideas), but have now shifted gears a bit. Starting in February, you will have 3 "Give Back" options on our shop: ACS Relay for Life, Skyview Theater Club and a Charity of the Month (February's COM is the American Heart Association). You can choose where your money goes! With that in mind, we now have a new facebook page that is just called Raven's Rascals. The Raven's Rascals Relay for Life Team facebook page will gradually be shifted towards just our Relay for Life team info and then will phase out, so we'd love to have you join us at our new page!

The direction of this blog will also shift to reflect our new purpose and will keep you up to date on our happenings, both in the shop and personal. I'll also be using this blog to chronicle my journey to a healthier me. This year our Relay is having an extra challenge for us to lose weight and become healthier. We have a Relay wide goal of losing 2500 lbs collectively. I'll be doing my part and keeping you up to date on the progress!

Here are the new blog "themes". This info can always be accessed by clicking the "Our Theme Days" page tab.

Having theme days helps keep me on track and focused and helps you to skip over posts you may not want to read. Not all of these will happen every week, nor will they probably be the only things blogged about, but for the most part everything will fit into these themed days.

We're back and open!

We're back into the swing of things fundraising for our 2013 Relay for Life!

I'm almost fully recovered from my surgery and can get back to doing what I love most...crocheting and fundraising for the ACS!

To celebrate our return, we're having our 1st Annual Etsy Clearance Sale where all items are $5 or $10 plus S&H. This sale will go through October 14th! Don't miss out on our lowest prices of the year!

We've also started a Make an Offer album on our Facebook page where we put items we will no longer be making or items that are still awesome, but don't quite meet our standards of quality. It's your chance to make an offer and score a great deal. We'll be offering this album until January 1, 2013. If it does well, we may continue it. :o)

Beginning soon, we'll be adding some made to order items. 1st up will be cup caddies (Pattern by The Hook Hound) like the ones shown below:

They are made from 100% cotton yarn and will be $8 + $3 S&H. They have 9 outer pockets and fit on a mug that is 3" across and 4" high. They're great for crochet hooks, makeup, office supplies, etc. Look for info on ordering soon!

So come check us out and give us a jump start toward our 2013 fundraising goal!
