My hubby and I will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary this summer. As part of that celebration we'll be making a trip to Seattle. Believe it or not, even though I live less than 3 hours away, I've never been. We'll also be attending a fan retreat for one of my favorite authors, <a href="http://www.dianagabaldon.com/" target="_blank">Diana Gabaldon</a>, who wrote the Outlander series. Yes, my husband is a very good sport, going to a fan retreat with 500 attendees, a GREAT majority of those being women! He's also attending pre and post retreat dinners. He pretty much rocks and I think I'll keep him around for at least another 20 years! :)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyway, I supplemented my wardrobe for the upcoming trip and one of the chosen tops is sleeveless. I really like something on my shoulders, so I scoured the internet to find a pattern that would be light, pretty and match my top. Enter the <a href="http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/L10495.html" target="_blank">Irish Crochet Scarf </a>. I made mine using Vanna's Glamour in Platinum color.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It was tricky at first, but once I made a few motifs the process went much faster. By the end I had the pattern memorized!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF01l21VsASdjpLT5L3SNxpNyDwkn02XSA4jF2ppnFITw161YGkw9TLaFWU-njLFG0hDaJ6aR53Qr2F53XiuaNPyvLjMCfxKhVuRDtFKY112xkms7Bgr2xszc4ijjBbeYG5N9ZHMZE9xk/s1600/DSCN3681.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF01l21VsASdjpLT5L3SNxpNyDwkn02XSA4jF2ppnFITw161YGkw9TLaFWU-njLFG0hDaJ6aR53Qr2F53XiuaNPyvLjMCfxKhVuRDtFKY112xkms7Bgr2xszc4ijjBbeYG5N9ZHMZE9xk/s1600/DSCN3681.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm now working on another one in Vanna's Glamour in Ruby Red color. It will be used in a raffle to raise money for the charity that Diana supports, <a href="http://www.nphusa.org/" target="_blank">NPH USA</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have immensely enjoyed the process of making these shawls and will definitely be adding some to the shop. What color would you like to see this shawl done in?</div>

It's been almost a YEAR since I posted last! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Life has continued on busy as usual. We have a senior in high school this year who is greatly involved in choir and theatre. Add in the freshman, 7th grader and 2nd grader and it can be hectic at times.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This year we do not have a Relay for Life team, however we are still raising money for the American Cancer Society as an individual walker. We've expanded our giving to include our local high school's theatre club and choirs and orchestras. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Another change coming is that as of June 12th, 2014, I will no longer be accepting orders for custom items. The <a href="http://ravensrascals.etsy.com/" target="_blank">Etsy</a> shop will only carry ready to ship items. This will allow me to create some items that are a little more time intensive. Hoping to keep adding a variety of fun and different items to the shop. It will also free up my time a bit to keep up with the family and with other administrative duties such as updating this blog and posting more on <a href="http://www.facebook.com/ravensrascalsGB" target="_blank">facebook</a>!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Hoping this past year was great for you all!</div>

Overhaul<div style="text-align: center;">
Wow, I'm horrible at keeping up with the blogging. Maybe this latest project of mine will keep me more organized. Probably not, but one can dream, right?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It all started one day when I saw this picture:</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://knitsforlife.com/2013/03/26/the-worlds-best-yarn-storage-idea/" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-bvYrqY_BdazET5x_2nnG6it72WN_2cN4hHXloBjz6NFDTFzRrXphL3RLo6_uhc_1LsxwLepMoJvjtx2Lxy7CWccvPpLBNdJeSd26NKoxxy_N965FQf06Xl0SAc2qGVJB-hxnl5IeSs8/s320/yarn-wall-room-4.jpg" width="228" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Click on the picture to read the blog post about this amazing wall!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I read the "how-to" on the blog post and thought that a pegboard yarn wall would be AWESOME!!! I discussed with Hubby and showed him the pics. He agreed that it would be pretty cool looking. So we started thinking of logistics. I had two large Billy bookcases from IKEA currently holding my yarn that needed a new home. We had been talking about using part of the toy room as a "pantry" and decided the bookcases could be used for that. On the toy room wall was 3 3x3 cubeicals that now needed a new home. I took 2 of them into the craft room and the other one now lives by the washer/dryer as storage for the laundry area. It replaced the freezer which moved into the new pantry area. Now, all those toys and books that were on the 3 cubeicals needed a new home which meant that the rest of the toy room needed to be reorganized and purged. The kitchen also received a full overhaul as we moved items to the new pantry. So far my little idea of a yarn wall was turning into a major project involving 3 rooms! My SIL helped last week with the toy room/pantry area/kitchen. I cannot even tell you how much stuff went to our local thrift store. But by the end of the week, the toy room/pantry looked amazing and as an added bonus, the living room bookshelves also received a makeover to house our collection of Nancy Drew, Black Stallion and Little House collections. That was last week. Now on to this week. I'm by no means done with the craft room (that will probably take another day or two), but I am done with the yarn wall that started it all so I thought I'd share some before and after pics!</div>

Today we take the time to remember my grandmother, Muriel E. who lost her battle with cancer on September 1, 2012. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She was my grandmother by marriage, not by birth, but I was welcomed by her with wide open arms. My grandma was a very special woman, full of devotion and love of her family. She never forgot a birthday and was always kind.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It was she who taught me how to crochet. I'm so happy to able to use the skill she gave me to raise money for the American Cancer Society. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thank you, Grandma, for the gift of you being you. You will be greatly missed!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

I have a severely infected kidney which has resulted in an abscess. This is not the first time I've experienced this and so the consensus has been that I have an unhealthy kidney that will continue to have these severe periods of down time. My other kidney looks quite healthy with no problems, so the best plan for me is to have the offending organ removed. Before that can happen, the current infection needs to get under control. Once that takes place (around the end of July), a removal date can be set. I'll be back in the hospital for 3-4 days then home to recover again. Personally a little bummed as this cannot be done lapriscopically, but rather old-fashioned flank incision.<br />
<br />
Enough about me. I'm recovering nicely from the infection and have no doubt with my family's love and care, I'll recover quite nicely from surgery, too. This will, however, take time. This extra time recovering means that we will not be participating in our Relay event this year, at least not in booth form. We will try to make it out to support the other teams on an as feeling basis. We will have items in the Silent Auctions, so for those who donated to that, thanks again as it allows us a way for fundraising even when we cannot be available. I had HUGE hopes for a 1st annual sale to take place in August. That will be taking a back burner for a while. While I feel like this, I cannot crochet. So all our shops have been closed/placed on vacation status. If you have any question about anything we sold/sell, please email or message me. I can either recommend someone who makes items almost identical and I've also helped by letting other's know what I charge. If you have any questions in general, feel free to contact me. I'm not online as much as I was, but am checking email at least twice a day.<br />
<br />
We want to give you, our supporters, a great, big, huge round of applause! Because of your generous support throughout the entire year, even with this slight hiccup in our fundraising, we will finish the 2012 season raising more money than we did last year! GREAT JOB EVERYONE!!! YOU ALL ROCK!!!!Rachel Martorano of Ravens Rascalshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09695915133614926453noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1749804420289665321.post-47971638488525946492012-06-26T15:16:00.001-07:002012-06-26T15:16:42.910-07:002012 Sponsor Thank You<div style="text-align: center;">
We have been honored to have been sponsored by a few artists who have graciously donated items for us to use in our fundraising efforts.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Today's goodies come from Kris of Laughing Vixen Lounge (<a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/LaughingVixenLounge" target="_blank">etsy</a> and <a href="http://laughingvixenlounge.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">blog</a>). Kris' pieces just scream cool to me! I own one of her photo deluxe bracelets and it is my fave bracelet! Kris was a 2011 sponsor of our team and she contacted me this year asking if we still needed donations. That's a generous spirit!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She sent us four compact mirror pill boxes. If you're lucky enough to be attending our Relay, you just might be able to score one of these awesome pieces. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you're not local, but agree that these are wicked cool, check out Kris' etsy shop. She's taking a quick break, but trust me, it's worth it to sign up to be notified when she opens up again. You won't regret it! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

I'm also working on this for my hubby. It will (crossing fingers) eventually be a shawl. The rest I'm making up as I go along. This was my first time carrying colors and was a valuable experience as I could definitely do better next time. :o) But he likes it so far and that's really all that matters!</div>

</div><div style="text-align: center;">I'd love to say I have grand Works In Progress on this W.I.P. Wednesday, but my work in progress today is getting the craft room cleaned up. It's getting hard to relax and be creative when there is a mess everywhere I look! I've taken some before pics to show just how claustrophobic it's becoming! Hopefully by the end of the day I'll be able to add the after pics of my tranquil, calm, relaxing space I once enjoyed. :o)<br />

</center><center>Wow! I had so many Works In Progress last week that I forgot to post!</center><center><br />
</center><center>This week has been all about the granny and the Rapunzel.</center><center><br />
</center><center>I'm participating in a 12x12 square swap. It's a great group of ladies (55 of us!). We'll be swapping squares and will end up with enough for 2 blankets! The 2 blankets I make will be used for fundraising for the 2013 Relay for Life season. All of the patterns for the squares I'm using can be found at <a href="http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/" target="_blank">Crochet Pattern Central</a>. Here are some pics of the squares I've completed so far.</center><br />

Currently in progress is a brown one (I don't have pics quite yet) and once that's done, I can take pics and get this bad girl listed. :o)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtlp_1au8HzFjFL9HEcRn5nT9X7LHUnHl31lnp-fY835WPsF-3aqemd0_bmrjbh_59GNzsEiu3OV_T2dV9jSer9q-9LWxd-lTbTqlT9J1o7jLKiauV0meBZAwvvzGT8AgPH7HVtCIWf8c/s1600/DSCN0301.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtlp_1au8HzFjFL9HEcRn5nT9X7LHUnHl31lnp-fY835WPsF-3aqemd0_bmrjbh_59GNzsEiu3OV_T2dV9jSer9q-9LWxd-lTbTqlT9J1o7jLKiauV0meBZAwvvzGT8AgPH7HVtCIWf8c/s320/DSCN0301.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My only other accomplishment this week was destashing my yarn stash. There's an album on our <a href="https://www.facebook.com/ravensrascals" target="_blank">facebook page</a> with yarn for sale if you're a fellow yarn lover like myself. 100% of the proceeds after paypal fees and shipping is going to the American Cancer Society!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">That's it for us! We'll be making more squares and finishing up the Rapunzel beanies this week. After that, I think I'll be trying a chicken hat from a new pattern!</div><br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I have some fun items that are currently Works In Progress!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
1st, we cover the items I have done, but will be making a lot more of before our Relay for Life event in July! These <a href="http://www.playinhookydesigns.com/collections/adults-patterns/products/playin-hooky-disc-crochet-pattern" target="_blank">Playin' Hooky Discs</a> are AWESOME! They really fly and they really don't hurt if you get hit by one. We're anxiously awaiting the warmer weather to try them outside, as they fly so well, it will be fun to see how far they can go. Our walls keep getting in the way!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-BVC4wT6R2IiirA300kQa29CpaA2o5Aoxf_Lyl09UyCdQAjhr11O6_hfZbAWaMAgTtIWFmRmwvQLiu4UB_pfx7kg2ST78UZCr9h10hccMkRYHO_CL_pezo3ScevXG4QXeTcAgGb1IE74/s1600/DSCN0296.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; display: inline !important; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-BVC4wT6R2IiirA300kQa29CpaA2o5Aoxf_Lyl09UyCdQAjhr11O6_hfZbAWaMAgTtIWFmRmwvQLiu4UB_pfx7kg2ST78UZCr9h10hccMkRYHO_CL_pezo3ScevXG4QXeTcAgGb1IE74/s320/DSCN0296.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Next up we have the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/94208552/crocodile-stitch-boots-adult-sizes" target="_blank">Crocodile Stitch Boots by Lianka of Bonita Patterns</a>! I've finished the right boot, and half way done with the left. I love this pattern! Easy to follow and so cute and classy when finished!<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6sq-2TgWkjIyxwvA6kIcqBawl9UR8SNjN7OrxbSU_eW-q7IVJZWPdtYZKJc-SC-kt4DuzN0_pqQ5xqurey_FMX3cXsbQkeBXTr-kOUl8PyrLOLX46DmDemb5JaQkXl7ur5mQP7o8gvgQ/s1600/DSCN0295.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6sq-2TgWkjIyxwvA6kIcqBawl9UR8SNjN7OrxbSU_eW-q7IVJZWPdtYZKJc-SC-kt4DuzN0_pqQ5xqurey_FMX3cXsbQkeBXTr-kOUl8PyrLOLX46DmDemb5JaQkXl7ur5mQP7o8gvgQ/s320/DSCN0295.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And last, but certainly not least as far as my youngest daughter is concerned, is the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/90870848/crochet-pattern-for-rapunzel-pdf" target="_blank">Rapunzel Crochet Dress Up Beanie pattern by The Sheepish Hooker</a>. This beanie is complete except for the 20+ flowers I still need to make and attach. She is excited to wear this to Disneyland when we go this fall and I am having a hard time keeping it off her head! She even wanted to wear it to kindergarten this morning! I made the 4+ size which she will definitely be able to grow into (and she's 6yo). It's large enough an adult could wear it if I made the braids longer. In fact my 15yo had it on her head so I could braid it! LOL</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvf37XZrwG8ePRGz7Jkg6JO170giSlp95GrlpC7VILayV7U6eA7PIXR32Z2FYyg9cxhczbazLebmgFQRSSHm9fhFJ-WcncQxRNb_TDUTpwoBMvPBhuhm5eGPAt_R3B5DCKfkCOktZNVfI/s1600/DSCN0293.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvf37XZrwG8ePRGz7Jkg6JO170giSlp95GrlpC7VILayV7U6eA7PIXR32Z2FYyg9cxhczbazLebmgFQRSSHm9fhFJ-WcncQxRNb_TDUTpwoBMvPBhuhm5eGPAt_R3B5DCKfkCOktZNVfI/s320/DSCN0293.JPG" width="240" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVp700xqfyytCQ9Jrhxmsh9S3D8GqzuyK07ECI8paKxLhzSfG9smme1tcY3zlfRIIfAe5Bezl0gY-3UIf7493PoMnMOrz2gTNbGeflR9txjHxD64XWEXDsN2aRTwENONRy-r7rumkpeis/s1600/DSCN0294.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVp700xqfyytCQ9Jrhxmsh9S3D8GqzuyK07ECI8paKxLhzSfG9smme1tcY3zlfRIIfAe5Bezl0gY-3UIf7493PoMnMOrz2gTNbGeflR9txjHxD64XWEXDsN2aRTwENONRy-r7rumkpeis/s320/DSCN0294.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">That's it from here. I hope to make a Leprechaun Ski Beanie this week and we'll see where else the week takes me! Until next time!</div><br />

Wednesday<div style="text-align: center;">Today is normally Work In Progress Wednesday, but I don't actually have any works in progress! They're all done! Oh, wait, not exactly true. My step-sis has been waiting patiently for me to finish up a pair of <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/90878686/crochet-pattern-mamachee-boots-adult" target="_blank">Mamachee boot slippers</a>, but I don't have a pic of that work in progress. You can click on the link to see what they're SUPPOSED to look like, although I'm not brave enough to do the cables, yet. :o)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I had an awesome vacation with hubby! A week on the Oregon Coast was just what the relaxation fairies ordered! I found these 2 artist blown floats on the beach as part of <a href="http://www.oregoncoast.org/finders-keepers/" target="_blank">Lincoln City's Finders Keepers program</a>. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyXjgqBgHBYiHkoUgknfvhXBZ_mtV-PX59SCqlV5gdxK_zxabDdk2SEDZDo4pQp5_6iXBiHELafMz1ShveFKCDybHFT02OHvPFX7LAhpoiUe32OyzK0Ju1RMz1ZyldrGxd6hXi5cA9YZY/s1600/DSCN0044.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyXjgqBgHBYiHkoUgknfvhXBZ_mtV-PX59SCqlV5gdxK_zxabDdk2SEDZDo4pQp5_6iXBiHELafMz1ShveFKCDybHFT02OHvPFX7LAhpoiUe32OyzK0Ju1RMz1ZyldrGxd6hXi5cA9YZY/s320/DSCN0044.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I also crocheted my little fingers off! I made the crocodile stitch cowl by <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/88927094/crocodile-stitch-convertible-headband" target="_blank">Bonita Patterns</a> (one of our 2012 Team Sponsors) seen in the above pic. It was awesome as it doubles as an ear warmer so when the beach would get really windy, I could put it over my ears. It triples as a double chin hider, so I was loving it!!!! I'll definitely be making more of these! Below are some of the other items I finished while on vacation:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I completed quite a few other items in the past couple of weeks while on vacation and visiting with out of town company. More than I thought! LOL </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Hope you enjoyed today's edition even though it was a little off topic. :o) I'll get back into the swing of things shortly!</div><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">My super SIL is in town visiting and playing Nanny while Hubby and I get away for a week on the OR coast. In anticipation of how windy the beach can be, I decided to see if my hair was long enough to donate to <a href="http://locksoflove.org/" target="_blank">Locks of Love</a>. I've been growing it to donate and figured now was the best time. Shorter hair is way easier to clean after swimming in the pool and way less tangled when blowing in the wind. It was a little iffy at first glance if I had enough (which is 10 inches braided), but in the end I had more than enough...a 12 inch braid was cut off and sent to <a href="http://locksoflove.org/" target="_blank">Locks of Love</a>. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Here are the before and after pics I know our FB fans have been waiting for.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4-mitkA1fok/TzU4UWTmXVI/AAAAAAAAAGg/Gff7KXGdkcQ/s1600/hairback.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4-mitkA1fok/TzU4UWTmXVI/AAAAAAAAAGg/Gff7KXGdkcQ/s320/hairback.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FEgHAXugpHs/TzU4VSVvoYI/AAAAAAAAAGo/Yeywj7dFaoQ/s1600/hairfront.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="107" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FEgHAXugpHs/TzU4VSVvoYI/AAAAAAAAAGo/Yeywj7dFaoQ/s320/hairfront.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Needless to say, the back of my neck is always very cold now. :o) And I realized that all the sun-bleached portions of my hair were cut off so it's definitely a darker color right now. But, I love it! I've never been disappointed<span style="font-family: inherit;"> when</span> giving my hairdresser free reign to do as she likes. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now I'm starting the process of growing it out all over again. The next time it gets long enough, I'll be donating it to <a href="http://www.pantene.com/en-US/beautiful-lengths-refresh/Pages/default.aspx" target="_blank">Pantene Beautiful Lengths</a>. Here's a little blurb from their website: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">"<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 17px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Beautiful Lengths is a partnership between Pantene and the American Cancer Society. Thanks to volunteers like you, we've donated thousands of free, real-hair wigs to women living with cancer. Created and funded by Pantene, these wigs are distributed through select American Cancer Society wig banks across the country. Your donation is critical because we can only create as many gorgeous real-hair wigs as gifts allow."</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 17px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 17px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">The best part about Pantene is that you only need 8 inches of hair to donate! It won't take me as long to grow it out! I highly recommend donating your hair if you can. It grows back, you can sport a new look and you bring hope and happiness to those who need a boost in their self-esteem. GO FOR IT!</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 17px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 17px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">On a hair related note, our other news this week was the addition of a new model for our hats! My SIL and I do a lot of thrift store shopping when she's in town and she came across this Manikin in Goodwill. It was a little more than I like to pay for a thrift store item, but having looked for months for one online, I knew it was a bargain. So I went for it and became the envy of the other women in the checkout line. Who knew heads were in such demand?</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 17px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 17px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Meet Nicki Vanessa Wilson</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_NjwWqAU-uM/TzU7alBU5qI/AAAAAAAAAGw/mi3d1Q8Ahg0/s1600/DSC_7266.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_NjwWqAU-uM/TzU7alBU5qI/AAAAAAAAAGw/mi3d1Q8Ahg0/s320/DSC_7266.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Nicki is a cosmetology manikin and her stylist-in-training did a fantastic job on her cut and highlights! I really am a little jealous of her hair. Before I knew she had a name of her own, I had asked See See what we should call her and she decided Vanessa. When we arrived home, however, I noticed she already had a name tattooed on her neck so Vanessa became the middle name. She thoroughly creeped out every child in the house with her real human hair (good thing I didn't do my original idea of introduction...putting her in someone's bed under the covers! Yes, I can be bad like that!), and I couldn't wait to show her off to Hubby. When he saw her, the joke became I may just adopt her as my best friend and start talking to her all the time to which Hubby said I really should name her Wilson after the ball Tom Hanks conversed with in Castaway. I said it would be a horrible first name for her, but an awesome last name and thus Nicki Vanessa Wilson was named and made a member of the household. The oldest is happy as I will press her less often into being my model (she hates her pictures taken). And all in all everyone is getting used to Nicki's presence. She's currently modeling one of our Homespun Cloche Hats.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</center><center>Time for another edition of Work In Progress Wednesday!</center><center><br />
</center><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.countrywomanmagazine.com/project/crocheted-valentines-day-hearts/" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IqZTtupTHqs/TyAaS_V37cI/AAAAAAAAAFk/nOCFGugEH9M/s1600/Valentines-Day-Hearts-300x300.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: xx-small;">Click on the pic to find the pattern for the hearts!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><center>I know you are all anxiously awaiting the Valentine's Day heart count! I'm up to 11!! Only 39 more to go! I've now made it a personal goal to finish 3 a day. </center><center><br />
</center><center>This weekend I tried a technique I've been wanting to try. I made some yarn out of t-shirts! I then used the yarn I made to crochet this cute tote bag. </center><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-68loqJR9Z6Y/TyAcLiCyOhI/AAAAAAAAAFs/QKped88dQps/s1600/DSC07491.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-68loqJR9Z6Y/TyAcLiCyOhI/AAAAAAAAAFs/QKped88dQps/s320/DSC07491.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: xx-small;">Pattern for t-shirt tote bag can be found here: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/SquirrelProductions" target="_blank">Squirrel Productions</a></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I've learned that making t-shirt yarn is more of an all body workout than one would think and that you should wear gloves while stretching it to avoid blisters. But while it takes more work than I thought, there's something very satisfying about re-purposing an item, so I think I'll continue to make these! </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AzuxyxZkS-s/TyAcN4yRidI/AAAAAAAAAF0/ymNv02G_i0Y/s1600/DSC07487.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AzuxyxZkS-s/TyAcN4yRidI/AAAAAAAAAF0/ymNv02G_i0Y/s320/DSC07487.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And last but not least is this earflap hat I made. I took my Mohawk Hat Pattern from the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/TheNeedleNerd?ref=pr_shop_more" target="_blank">Needle Nerd</a> and instead of adding a mohawk, I used some novelty yarn to add stripes. I really like the look and will be making more of these to sell!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Check back next week for the latest creations from Raven's Rascals!</div><center><br />

However, there are some weeks like this week where we just go through our routine and don't do anything super exciting. But, on those weeks, I'll share something I found funny. Then hopefully I can bring a smile to your face. :o)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I'm a huge fan of puns. They're corny as all get out, but I never cease laughing at them. So here's one I heard today:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px; text-align: left;">"The friars were behind on their belfry payments, so they opened up a small florist shop to raise funds. </span><br style="font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px; text-align: left;" /><br style="font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px; text-align: left;" /><span style="font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px; text-align: left;">Since everyone liked to buy flowers from the men of God, a rival florist across town thought this was unfair. He asked the good fathers to close down, but they would not. </span><br style="font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px; text-align: left;" /><br style="font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px; text-align: left;" /><span style="font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px; text-align: left;">He went back and begged the friars to close. They ignored him. </span><br style="font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px; text-align: left;" /><br style="font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px; text-align: left;" /><span style="font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px; text-align: left;">So the rival florist hired Hugh MacTaggart, the roughest and most vicious thug in town to "persuade" them to close. Hugh beat up the friars and trashed their store, saying he'd be back if they didn't close up shop. </span><br style="font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px; text-align: left;" /><br style="font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px; text-align: left;" /><span style="font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px; text-align: left;">Terrified, they did so, thereby proving that: </span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px; text-align: left;"><br />
</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px; text-align: left;"><b><span style="font-size: large;">Hugh, and only Hugh, can prevent florist friars.</span></b><span style="font-size: 14px;">"</span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px; text-align: left;"><br />
</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px; text-align: left;">See, corny, but I laughed! I'd love to hear some of your favorite puns! Feel free to share!</span></div>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1749804420289665321.post-29999686321912298992012-01-12T12:05:00.000-08:002012-01-12T12:05:07.998-08:00Thank You Thursday<div style="text-align: center;">Thursday is a day I like to set aside to thank those generous folks who have contributed to our team whether it be financial, by donating items or spreading the word!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I was scoping out some blogs and came across <a href="http://ambassadorcrochet.com/" target="_blank">Ambassador Crochet</a>. Awesome! Anyway, she had what I think is a super idea, especially for us crafters...Work In Progress Wednesday. So because one of my goals for 2012 is to blog more often and I always have something on a crochet hook in progress, I thought I'd make this a weekly blog post.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.countrywomanmagazine.com/project/crocheted-valentines-day-hearts/" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKeIp-W-hCT8igUQVnKrZ-Cu3RXNs40d32eeXM5fG35bMpe-UknokhKj2z8F2KohBnWpqeRXoIY60050oPrgAD_a39DDSCCEw2uDJJOWpIIl5mFg4-Gk_SN4vykuELERPRrYmiyD6xFyQ/s1600/Valentines-Day-Hearts-300x300.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: xx-small;">(Click on picture for pattern)</span></div><br />
Today and for quite a few days in the near future, I'm putting together these crocheted hearts for 2 of my children's classrooms for their Valentine's Day parties. 50 hearts total. 3 done, only 47 more to go. :o) They are quick and easy, but of course I'm doing them in my spare time after I crochet something for the <a href="http://ravensrascals.etsy.com/" target="_blank">shop</a>.<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Owls are the current theme for the etsy shop. I am trying to finish a hat a day.
